Nothing is more frustrating than pressing the power button on your desktop and getting no response. But don’t worry, there are several steps you can take to diagnose and fix the issue.
1. Check the Power Source
- Ensure the power cable is properly plugged into both the desktop and the power outlet.
- Try a different outlet or a different power cable if available.
- If you’re using a power strip or surge protector, test by plugging the desktop directly into the wall.
2. Inspect the Power Supply Unit (PSU)
- Look for any visible damage or burning smell from the PSU.
- If your desktop has a PSU switch, make sure it’s turned on.
- If your PSU has a test button or LED indicator, check if it lights up.
3. Look for Signs of Life
- Do any LED lights turn on?
- Do the fans spin for a moment and then stop?
- If you hear beeping sounds, refer to your motherboard manual for beep code meanings.
4. Perform a Power Drain (Hard Reset)
- Unplug the power cable, hold the power button for 30 seconds, then reconnect and try again.
- If your motherboard has a CMOS battery, removing it for a few minutes and reinserting it can help reset BIOS settings.
5. Reseat Internal Components
- Open the case and check that all cables, RAM sticks, and GPU (if applicable) are properly seated.
- Remove and reinsert the RAM sticks and GPU to ensure a secure connection.
- If you have multiple RAM sticks, try booting with just one at a time.
6. Disconnect External Devices
- Unplug all USB devices, external hard drives, and peripherals.
- Try turning on the desktop with only the power cable and monitor connected.
7. Check for Overheating Issues
- If the desktop was running hot before shutting down, let it cool for at least 15 minutes.
- Check if the CPU or GPU fans are spinning when you attempt to power on.
8. Seek Professional Help From Us (WARRANTY CLAIM ONLY)
If none of these steps work, there could be a hardware failure in the motherboard, PSU, RAM, or other internal components.
We recommend bringing your desktop to us for a professional diagnosis.
